Moody cinematic still from a fantasy dungeon adventure

A Melbourne gaming journal

Read the games like films.

Thunder Dungeon Chronicle covers RPGs, roguelikes, and immersive sims with long-form reviews and lore essays — shot through a film-noir lens, written from Fitzroy.

Our story

From a Fitzroy loft to a nightly deadline.

What began as one moody newsletter is now a small crew filing dispatches from the couch, the arcade, and the odd studio basement.

  1. 2018

    The first dispatch

A single writer emails 40 friends a 2,000-word teardown of a forgotten dungeon crawler. Half of them reply. The habit sticks.

  2. 2020

    Lockdown marathon

During Melbourne's long lockdown we publish a review every weekday for six months. Readership crosses 50,000 monthly.

  3. 2022

    A real desk

We move into a Rose Street studio, build a capture rig, and add a lore column and a preview beat covering local indie studios.

  4. Today

    Five voices, one lens

A crew of five ships reviews, essays, and previews each week — always slow, always spoiler-flagged, always cinematic.

What we publish

Four beats, one obsessive standard.
